My Story
Hello, I am Kim and I'm glad you are here. I absolutely love my work and feel privileged every day to walk with people in such vulnerable and tender places in their lives. I have personally been on this journey of healing, wholeness and integration since being a young college student. I have experienced tremendous and powerful personal healing. Through my journey with breast cancer in recent years, I have become friends with my body and have discovered a well of compassion for myself and the journey of my life. I have experienced what it is to rest in God's deep and abiding love for me; this practice has substantively changed. Even as a child, I was a deep thinker and have always been the friend that everyone told their secrets. Perhaps this is how I grew to love intense and meaningful conversations. I believe deeply in what my mentor, Lottie Hillard, taught me, "Counseling is just one beggar showing another beggar where to find bread." I love Jesus deeply and am passionate about people, relationships and communities. I enjoy cooking (and eating!) and making old things into new-ish things. I love movement and everything outdoors and am always looking for something new to try.
Family
I am the wife to a wonderful man, Ron, who God uses to surprise me by repeatedly bringing me rich goodness in places I'd never have thought to look! I am a very fortunate woman to be able to call my husband my best friend and greatest supporter. As I write this I am aware that this may not be true for you and I am also acutely aware that this has not always been true for us either. We have had a long and rough journey to get here. I hope that gives you a tad bit more hope for what is possible for you. I am the mom of two college students and step-mom of two more young adults. My family has always been and continues to be the propelling force in my life.

Education & Approach
I began my counseling studies at Reformed Theological Seminary just after graduating from college in 2000. The training I received there set the stage for the framework that has fixed the direction for my counseling practice, as well as my entire life. I use an eclectic method of counseling that draws from ancient Christian practices, story work, somatic work, Internal Family Systems, interpersonal neurobiology, and attachment theory. I regularly incorporate practices of story writing and telling, movement, grounding, alternative forms of expression, and integrate art and artistic components into the therapy I provide. In sessions it is common for me to coach clients through scripture readings, breathing, grounding, mindfulness and other forms of affect regulation exercises.
Areas of Specialty
I specialize in working with people having relational difficulties, spiritual questions and hurts, past physically, sexually, emotionally abusive or neglectful relationships, including coercive control, marriage and parenting challenges, sexuality and gender related struggles. I do attachment work and help my clients with emotion regulation, and mind, heart and body integration. I frequently work with people wrestling with depression, anxiety, grief, fear, anger and the meaning of life.
